Acid Disposal & Corrosive Waste Collection Services
If your business or organisation produces acid or corrosive waste, it’s essential that you work with a licensed hazardous waste carrier to meet strict UK regulations. Whether you’re a manufacturer, industrial processing laboratory, or operate across the utilities, engineering and healthcare sectors, we can help keep your site compliant with corrosive waste management services.
We can collect and dispose of your corrosive waste that’s stored in small laboratory containers, drums, IBCs, or bulk tanks. And, where appropriate, we can organise a specialist glass-lined tanker for suitable waste streams.

Controlled Treatment for Acid and Corrosive Waste
CSG does more than collect corrosive waste. Following assessment and compatibility testing, suitable acidic and alkaline wastes can undergo controlled neutralisation at our specialist treatment facilities.
This process produces a liquid effluent and a solid filter cake. The effluent undergoes further physicochemical treatment to reduce its hazardous properties and remove contaminants, while the filter cake is sent to an appropriately authorised landfill facility.
- Assessment and compatibility testing before treatment
- Controlled neutralisation of suitable acidic and alkaline wastes
- Separation of the resulting liquid and solid fractions
- Further effluent treatment and compliant disposal of the filter cake

Frequently Asked Questions About Acid & Corrosive Waste Disposal
What is corrosive waste?
Corrosive waste refers to any kind of waste that can chemically damage materials or cause harm through contact. This includes strong acids and alkaline or basic substances that can present risks to people and the environment if handled incorrectly.
Do you collect alkaline or basic waste as well as acid waste?
We do. Alongside acid waste disposal, we can also collect and manage alkaline and basic waste streams, subject to assessment and waste acceptance.
What types of corrosive waste does CSG collect?
We can support the collection and management of a wide range of corrosive waste streams, subject to classification and acceptance.
This includes:
- Waste acids
- Alkaline and basic waste solutions
- Process liquors
- Acidic cleaning solutions
- Caustic waste
- Corrosive laboratory reagents
- Pickling acids
- Contaminated corrosive liquids
- Corrosive sludges and residues
Waste acceptance will depend on the chemical composition, contamination level, packaging, and overall hazard profile.
What containers should we use for acid or corrosive waste?
This depends on the type of waste and hazard collection, but may include:
- UN-rated drums
- UN-rated IBCs
- Specialist corrosive-resistant containers
- Bulk storage tanks
Not sure on the best way to store your corrosive waste? Our waste experts are on hand to advise.
What information do you need to quote a corrosive waste collection?
To provide an accurate quotation, we may require:
- Safety Data Sheets (SDS) information where available
- Waste description and composition
- UN number (if known)
- Estimated quantities
- Packaging type
- Site location and access details
If you are able to, providing photographs and sample information will also help us with assessment.
In some cases, a physical sample of the waste may be required before we can provide an accurate quote. This helps us confirm the waste composition, identify the most suitable treatment route, and ensure the collection is priced correctly.
Do you always neutralise corrosive waste?
Neutralisation is only used where the composition and compatibility of the waste make it safe and appropriate. Suitable acidic and alkaline wastes can be treated together under controlled conditions, while other corrosive wastes may require a different specialist treatment or disposal route.
Can you collect laboratory reagents as well as bulk corrosive waste?
We can help with both! For more complex laboratory waste streams, this will be handled through our dedicated laboratory waste services.
Is there a minimum quantity or minimum charge?
We do not have a fixed minimum quantity for acid and alkali waste collections, but a minimum disposal charge of £150 applies, excluding transport, consignment note and any additional treatment or packaging requirements.
Our acid and alkali disposal service is designed for commercial and industrial customers with business waste disposal requirements. In most cases, we will arrange collection directly from your site. If you need to deliver waste to one of our facilities, you must hold a valid UK waste carrier licence and arrange this with us in advance.
Because of the minimum charge and regulatory requirements involved, our service is not usually suitable for domestic customers with small quantities of household chemicals, such as a few bottles stored at home. If you are a business and are unsure whether your waste meets our collection requirements, please contact our team and we’ll advise on the most suitable and cost-effective option.
What happens to acid and corrosive waste after collection?
The waste is assessed to determine its composition, compatibility and appropriate treatment route. Where suitable, acidic and alkaline waste streams can undergo controlled neutralisation. The resulting material is then separated into a liquid effluent and a solid filter cake for further treatment and disposal.
Can acid and corrosive waste be recovered?
Acid and corrosive waste managed through this process is not currently suitable for recovery. Instead, the focus is on controlled treatment to reduce hazardous properties and ensure that the resulting liquid and solid outputs are managed through compliant routes.
What happens to the effluent and filter cake produced during treatment?
The liquid effluent undergoes further physicochemical treatment to reduce hazardous properties and remove contaminants before following its permitted onward route. The solid filter cake is generally sent to an appropriately authorised landfill facility.
