95%
classification accuracy across hundreds of unmarked chemical containers
University of Manchester
Unknown chemicals assessed without opening containers
The University of Manchester needed to clear hundreds of unmarked chemical containers from former research areas. Because conventional dip testing was unsuitable, CSG’s laboratory-waste specialists used non-invasive infrared scanning to assess and classify the materials.
Over four days, each item underwent up to three scans. The work also established that a suspect 25-litre drum contained cured polystyrene resin rather than unstable organic peroxide, avoiding unnecessary specialist intervention.

Mulberry Design
Scheduled collections with flexibility when requirements change
CSG regularly collects watery ink solution from Mulberry’s two UK factories and provides planned tanker services for oil, sludge and wastewater from its interceptors.
A consistent collection schedule, clear communication and a dedicated point of contact help Mulberry manage its unavoidable liquid waste. When tanks require emptying sooner than expected, CSG can also respond to changing operational requirements.

hazardous waste streams coordinated within one programme
Safran Landing Systems
A waste review that led to a fully managed programme
Safran asked CSG to examine how waste was being handled at its Gloucester facility and recommend a more effective system. The resulting Total Waste Management programme now covers all day-to-day waste produced across the site.
A dedicated four-person CSG team coordinates collections, documentation, statutory responsibilities and ongoing improvement opportunities—demonstrating when an initial review can reveal the need for broader, long-term support.
When Total Waste Management May Be the Right Next Step
A full Total Waste Management audit may be appropriate if your organisation:
- Operates across multiple sites
- Produces several hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams
- Uses numerous suppliers or waste contractors
- Needs consolidated waste reporting and documentation
- Requires regular on-site coordination
- Wants to develop a structured improvement programme
Where these requirements apply, our Total Waste Management team can complete a more detailed review of your waste streams, suppliers, collection arrangements, reporting and operational objectives.
frequently asked questions about the disposal of chemical waste
Is the waste review free?
Chemical waste refers to any discarded material that contains hazardous chemicals that are harmful to humans or the environment.
Will the review reduce my waste costs?
The review may identify potential efficiencies, but savings cannot be guaranteed. Costs depend on the waste, quantities, collection requirements, treatment route and current arrangements. In some cases, correcting an unsuitable or non-compliant arrangement may increase the immediate cost of managing the waste properly.
Will you identify rebate opportunities?
Some clean, segregated materials may have a recoverable value, but this depends on composition, contamination, quantity and market conditions. Rebates are more commonly considered as part of a wider Total Waste Management programme.
Can CSG find an alternative to landfill?
We will consider appropriate reuse, recycling, treatment and recovery routes where they are technically suitable, permitted and available. Some waste may still require disposal, and no particular recovery outcome can be guaranteed before the material has been assessed.
Is this a compliance audit?
The initial review is not a formal legal or compliance audit and does not provide compliance certification. We may identify documentation questions or areas that require further investigation and explain the appropriate next step.
Is this the same as a Total Waste Management audit?
No. This page is suitable for both individual service enquiries and more complex requirements. If the information provided indicates that your organisation could benefit from a full Total Waste Management audit, we will introduce you to the appropriate team.
