Oil Spill Containment & Clean Up
At CSG, we provide nationwide oil spill containment and clean-up support for commercial and industries sites experiencing an oil spill, helping to quickly reduce risks and cut down the costs and complexities associated.
We operate with a ‘contain first, clean up second’ approach to oil spill incidents. The closer that an oil spill gets to soils, drains, or watercourses, the more critical and costly it becomes. By using specialist oil-only absorbents, we can contain the oil and clean the area effectively without impacting the area.
Helping businesses contain spills before they become major environmental incidents.

Frequently Asked Questions About Oil Spill Containment
Which spill kit do we need for oil, chemical, or general maintenance spills?
Our emergency response spill kits are designed to help you manage any kind of spill in a range of environments. To make it easier, we have colour-coded our spill kits according to the substance:
- Maintenance spill kits have a grey label
- Chemical spill kits have a yellow label
- Oil spill kits have a blue label
Each kit includes different specialised equipment for their substance, including absorbents (pads, cushions, socks, booms, and rolls), loose absorbents, and spill containment equipment.
Which size spill kit should we have as a minimum?
We’d recommend that your kit’s capacity should match your site’s realistic worst-case scenario. For example, your total absorbent capacity should be able to manage the largest spill possible.
We supply single-use, grab bags, and wheeled spill kits. Explore our brochure to discover which one is right for you.
Where should spill kits be located on site?
Spill kits should be placed in high-visibility, unobstructed ares across your site. Everyone working on site should know where they are and how to access them in an emergency response.
They should be away from high-risk zones, such as near fuel tanks, chemical stores, refuelling points, and any drains.
What should we have in addition to a spill kit?
While a spill kit is often your first line of defence in oil or chemical spills, it’s also recommended to have drain protection, leak sealing putty, spill pallets, and drip trays on site.
Staff training of how to use your spill kits and equipment is also crucial. At CSG, we offer qualified training and advice. Contact our team today if you’d like our support on using oil and chemical spill kits.
Can you refill or replace used spill kits?
Yes. We can replenish your spill kit whenever required, from replacing individual used items such as absorbent pads, socks, pillows and disposal bags, through to supplying a full replacement kit. We can also provide additional spill control and storage support, including drum bunds, IBC bunds and other containment products. Get in touch with CSG to discuss your requirements or request our full spill control catalogue.
Do you offer emergency spill response alongside kit supply?
Absolutely. For emergency incidents that are too large or dangerous for your team to handle, we operate an emergency spill hotline (in service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year) with operatives stationed across the UK for rapid mobilisation.
How often should spill kits be inspected and replenished?
Ideally, spill kits should be inspected monthly to check that all equipment is still suitable and compliant for use in a spill response. Equipment in spill kits must be replenished immediately after use.
Can you help us decide based on COSHH/SDS and site layout?
Absolutely. Our team of experienced professionals can evaluate your Safety Data Sheets (SDS), review your site layout, and conduct a full spill compliance evaluation to ensure you have the correct kit, size, and placement for your industry and site requirements.
